This season for the Emporia High girls golf team has been special.
Not only have school records been broken, but the program won its first Centennial League championship and also continued a streak of qualifying for state as a team.
After taking eighth last year as a team, the Spartans look to improve on that performance at the Class 5A state tournament to be played at Hesston Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Coach Rick Eckert says the Spartans’ hard work is paying off and hopes it continues at state.

Junior Lacey Rust says the Spartans have a great season no matter what happens at state.
Freshman Keilara Owens will also be playing at state.
Monday’s round begins at 9 a.m. at Hesston Golf Course. The top six teams and other top low scores amongst non-qualifying teams qualify for Tuesday’s final round.
The Emporia Municipal Golf Course is hosting the Class 4A state tournament.
The Osage City Girls and Council Groves Alison Bachura will be playing in the 3-2-1A tournament at Hutchinson’s Carey Park.
