COVID-19 infections appear to be on a decline for the time being, however, Lyon County Public Health is now asking residents to be mindful of two other major viruses.
According to CareArc Community Health Manager Melissa Smith, Kansas counties are warning residents about potential monkeypox and Ebola infections. Smith mentioned the concerns as part of the quarterly public health update to Lyon County Commissioners Thursday morning.
The announcement comes as Smith says local vaccinations have declined somewhat in recent weeks. She attributes that in part to what appears to be a decline in overall infections over the past few weeks.
Smith couldn’t say if the recent announcement of CareArc’s availability of pediatric bivalent boosters will bolster those numbers in the near future. That being said, she says the adult bivalent vaccine saw high demand and she is hopeful that trend will continue.
In other business Thursday, commissioners approved the purchase of new vehicle parts for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at a cost of of $60,728. The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly action meeting at 9 am next Thursday inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
