Four area cross country teams placed at their respective classifications’ state meets Saturday.
The Emporia High girls cross country team finished in eighth place at the Class 5A state championship at Rim Rock Farm near Lawrence.
Individually, the Spartans were led by senior Elizabeth Willhite who finished in 31st with a time of 20:32.8. Sophomore Allison Curtis was 35th with a time of 20:35.5. Senior Maryn True finished 47th with a time of 21:02.1. Senior Micah Sheffy-Harris ran a 21:18.6, good for 57th. Freshman Bailee VanSickle finished 63rd with a time of 21:38.9 and junior Sofia Ruvalcaba took 78th with a time of 21:57.4.
Sophomore Daghyn True was the lone Spartan to qualify for state. He finished in 10th place with a time of 16:12.9.
In Class 1A, the Lebo girls placed 10th and were led by Kennah Speer’s 18th place finish with a time of 22:01.31. The Hartford boys finished seventh. Cleveland Cody was the top finisher for the Jaguars taking 35th with a time of 19:15.64. Individually in Class 1A on the girls side, Olpe’s Lillian Skalsky finished fourth with a time of 20:38.34 and Madison’s Lily Hudson ran a 23:01.27, good for 27th. On the boys side, Olpe’s Kaleb Arnold finished eighth with a time of 17:52.94. Lebo’s Caleb Durst finished fifth with a time of 17:47.18.
In Class 2A on the girls side, Northern Heights’ Taegan Hines finished 60th (23:38.50) and Laura Catchcart was 63rd (23:45.91). On the boys side, Northern Heights finished 11th place. The Wildcats’ top finisher was Cooper Hamlin who finished 21st with a time of 17:57.25. Lyndon’s Brayden Marcotte was eighth with a time of 17:22.51 and teammate Zander Seth took 36th with a time of 18:27.71. Chase County’s Silus Hernandez finished 47th with a time of 18:56.06.
In Class 3A on the girls side, Osage City finished seventh as a team. The Indians’ top finisher was Emory Speece, who finished eighth with a time of 20:16.8. Jaiton Bosse finished 19th with a time of 20:39.9. Council Grove’s Jordyn Picolet ran a 20:34.7, good for 14th.
In Class 3A on the boys side, Council Groves Lakoddah Downes finished 12th with a time of 16:29.9.
