An Emporia man who reached a plea agreement on child sex abuse counts will be back in court for a probation-related hearing later this month.
Wyatt Bennett was initially charged with eight counts dating back to a November 2019 case, including aggravated indecent liberties, attempted aggravated indecent liberties, indecent liberties and criminal sodomy. Bennett pleaded no contest to two attempted aggravated indecent liberties charges this past March, so the rest of the, counts were dismissed and he was sentenced to probation. However, a curfew check in late August indicated Bennett had solicited illegal pictures from a 16-year-old teenager in Colorado. Bennett was subsequently jailed.
A hearing Tuesday, listed as a “probation violation disposition,” was continued to Nov. 16 so defense attorneys could serve at least one witness with paperwork.
