There has been one schedule adjustment for Emporia’s Veterans Day activities Friday.
The memorial service will be at 11 am, although organizer Ron Whitney says the location is getting moved from the All Veterans Memorial to the Fairgrounds Anderson Building.
Whitney says the parade will take place in downtown Emporia beginning at 9:30 am. Temperatures will be in the mid-20s with wind chills in the teens when the parade begins.
8:30 am Thursday: Veterans Day events taking place at scheduled times, but memorial service may move locations
The core of Emporia’s Veterans Day activities is taking place as scheduled — at least for now.
Organizer Ron Whitney says the parade will take place in downtown Emporia beginning at 9:30 am. Temperatures will be in the mid-20s with wind chills in the teens when the parade begins. Whitney says participants will decide whether they want to be involved.
The memorial service will be at 11 am, although Whitney says the location hasn’t been determined yet. The current plan is to have the service at the All Veterans Memorial, but the event might move to the Fairgrounds Anderson Building.
Before those activities, Emporia Presbyterian Manor will have a drive-thru breakfast for veterans beginning at 7:30 am. Afterward, there will be ham and bean feeds at the American Legion and VFW posts before the Josh Gracin concert at the Emporia Granada Theatre at 7 pm.
Whitney is KVOE’s Newsmaker guest at 7:20 am Friday with a last-minute preview.
