Can one city speak two languages? Emporia Spanish Speakers thinks it is possible and their efforts were highlighted at the pop-lunch event hosted by the Kansas Leadership Center on Wednesday.
Emporia Spanish Speakers was recently featured in The Journal, a leadership magazine of the KLC. Members of the community gathered to celebrate with Emporia Spanish Speakers and the KLC and discussed the importance of having a bilingual city.
Founder of Emporia Spanish Speakers and Director of Visit Emporia LeLan Dains says the attendance of members of the community to the event was great, which shows the importance they give to learning Spanish to have a united community.
Executive Editor of The Journal Chris Green says one of the reasons they choose to feature Emporia Spanish Speakers is because he wanted to know more about their efforts to teach Spanish to members of the community to break the language divide.
The feature story at The Journal is one of the good news Emporia Spanish Speakers add to their journey. Earlier this month The Building Power and Equity Partnership of the Kansas Health Foundation awarded $25,000 to Emporia Spanish Speakers which they plan to use to increase the outreach to the community.
