Walnut Elementary School is expecting a big turnout for a local Thanksgiving tradition.
The in-person component of Walnut School’s Turkey Day Dash is back on the community calendar following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Walnut Principal Jami Dakin says they are “organized and ready to go.”
Residents interested in participating can register online or at the event itself with same-day registration beginning at 6:30 am. Registration is $20 and of course, costumes are encouraged with a special award being presented for the “best costume.”
All proceeds will go to benefit Walnut’s PTO.
Medals will also be awarded to the top three male and female finishers across seven age categories. KVOE will be broadcasting from the Turkey Day Dash during our Primetime Newsmaker segment.
Once again the dash is part of the Emporia Recreation Commission’s annual Super Series. The 5K is scheduled to launch at 7:30 am.
