In a welcome change, area residents got a bit more rainfall than expected Saturday.
Projections had anywhere from half an inch to an inch of rainfall, but the KVOE studios had 1.2 inches of rainfall, while the Emporia Municipal Airport had 1.17 inches. Other totals:
*Sixth and East: 1.55 inches
*Ninth and Luther: 2 inches
*Ninth and Woodland: 2.1 inches
*10th and Weaver: 1.22 inches
*1100 block Constitution: 0.70 inches
*1700 block Wheeler: 1.4 inches
*0.5 miles north of Allen: 0.80 inches
*1 mile south of Allen: 0.80 inches
*3 miles northwest of Climax: 0.94 inches
*6 miles south of Cottonwood Falls: 0.98 inches
*Madison: 1.36-1.5 inches
*2 miles north of Matfield Green: 0.57 inches
*Osage City: 1 inch
*1 mile north of Saffordville: 1.4 inches
This is the most significant rainfall since area residents picked up two to four inches of rain Nov. 4-6. It also comes with moderate to extreme drought still covering the KVOE listening area north to south.
The National Weather Service says there could be freezing fog south and west of Emporia late Sunday night into early Monday morning. Light rain and snow are possible Tuesday night for Emporia’s annual Christmas parade.
