The Emporia State women held on for an 85-79 win over Rogers State Thursday night.
Tre’Zure Jobe led the Lady Hornets with a game-high 25 points. Victoria Price added 16 points and Ehlaina Hartman finished with 14 points. The Lady Hornets never trailed but were unable to put the Hillcats away. The biggest lead for Emporia State was by 10 in the 2nd quarter.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn liked the way they closed out the game.
The Emporia State women improve to 6-1 for the season and 2-0 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men were outscored by Rogers State 75-68. The Hornets trailed by 10 before cutting the deficit to 2 at 54-52 with just over 9 minutes to play. Rogers State closed out the game on an 18-8 run. The Hornets struggled to score shooting 37 percent for the game. Rogers State shot 51 percent from the field.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said there were breakdowns defensively.
Owen Long was the leading scorer for Emporia State finishing with 21 points. Nachs Wahwassuck added 10 points.
It was the first loss of the season for the Emporia State men. They are now 7-1 for the season and 1-1 in the MIAA.
Emporia State plays at Northeastern State on Sunday. Game times will be 1:30 for the women and 3:30 for the men.
