The Emporia State women’s and men’s basketball teams overcame slow starts to pick up wins over Northeastern Oklahoma State Sunday.
The Lady Hornets trailed by 13 in the first quarter. They would rally in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-32 lead at halftime. They would continue to build on the lead in the 2nd half and would lead by 13 points in the 4th quarter on the way to a 65-57 win
Coach Toby Wynn credited the defensive effort for the win.
Tre’Zure Jobe led Emporia State with a team-high 17 points. Ehlaina Hartman added 12 points.
The Lady Hornets improved to 7-1 for the season and 3-0 in MIAA play.
The Emporia State men trailed 9-1 to start the game and were behind at halftime 27-19. The second half belonged to the Hornets as they outscored Northeastern 40-31 for a 59-58 win.
Coach Craig Doty liked the way they responded in the 2nd half.
Owen Long came off the bench to lead Emporia State in scoring finishing with 26 points. Peyton Rogers Schmidt led the Hornets with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Kaden Evans also had double-figure rebounds finishing with 10.
The Emporia State men are now 8-1 for the season and 2-1 in MIAA play.
Both the women and men host Northwest Missouri State on December 17th.
