Chase and Greenwood counties are receiving funds for upcoming bridge projects.
Chase County is receiving over $1.7 million to replace a bridge less than a mile west of Cedar Point. The project involving the Main Street bridge over the Cottonwood River will have a Chase County contribution of over $125,000, meaning less than a 7-percent county match for the funds.
The Chase County project is part of the Off-System Bridge Program, which uses federal funds to replace or repair bridges on roads not part of the federal aid system.
In Greenwood County, a bridge removal project 1.6 miles west of Hamilton is receiving over $1.3 million in funds — almost $1.1 million officially as KDOT matching funds and the rest as funds for the removal process. The county has a 5-percent match, but the state hasn’t announced that amount.
Greenwood County’s project comes from the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program, which is designed to replace or remove “structurally deficient or functionally obsolete” bridges.
