Emporia City Manager Trey Cocking says he wasn’t surprised by the reaction to the city’s new logos for official business.
Cocking’s comments on KVOE’s Morning Show followed a KVOE News online poll that showed over 90 percent of the nearly 500 respondents did not favor the new logos, which replaced the prior logo in place for over 15 years.
The new design, created by Lot & Ilk after the city used both a Request for Qualification and a separate online submission process, features a stylized E with a blue star above it representing Emporia’s standing as the founding city of Veterans Day. The bottom of the E represents the Flint Hills and Emporia’s longstanding moniker of “Front Porch of the Flint Hills.” Two stripes in the middle of the E represent the Cottonwood and Neosho Rivers while the top half of the E is designed to represent the future. Cocking says he’s pleased with how the logo “tries to tell Emporia’s story” with the certain different features that were highlighted.
