Investments are coming to the KVOE listening area, thanks to grant funding at the state and federal levels.
The Kansas Housing Authority has announced a pair of grant amounts involving Emporia. The city is receiving $650,000 through what’s called the Moderate Income Housing program to build 12 duplexes, while Capital Holdings LLC is receiving $720,000 in Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits for the project.
Meanwhile, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced a nearly $2 million grant for Kwikom to build out its broadband network. Officially, Kwikom is receiving over $1.8 million to connect better than 1,300 homes in its coverage area, which includes Lyon, Osage and Franklin counties. This is part of the state’s second round of funding through its Capital Project Funds grant program to bring high-speed Internet to sparsely-populated areas.
And USDA Rural Development has announced a $50,000 grant to help rehabilitate 20 owner-occupied homes in Coffey County. Most of the residents — 90 percent — are considered “very low” income, with the rest considered low income. Projects will consist of new roofs, foundation repairs and upgrades to electrical, plumbing and heating systems.
