Emporia Recreation Commissioners have not approved any capital improvement projects to move forward, however, they now have a clearer roadmap for how they would like to proceed in the near future.
During the commission’s monthly meeting Monday evening, commissioners discussed their main priorities for future improvements and came to an agreement that their top three projects would be the Lee Beran Recreation Center, DeBauge Family Sports Complex and Whittier Park. Commission Chairman Dave Harding says commissioners also seemed to be in agreement that the rec center would be at the top of the list.
That being said, Harding tells KVOE News there are no concrete plans for any of the facilities in place at this time.
Harding tells KVOE News discussions on funding have been “circular” in recent months as in order to know how much funding they need there needs to be a project plan in place but in order to develop the plan, commissioners need to know how much money is available.
Harding says commissioners’ next move will be to meet with consultants to begin solidifying improvement plans over the course of the next year.
In other business Monday, commissioners approved moving their monthly January meeting to Monday, Jan. 20 at 5:30 pm inside of the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
