Longtime local veteran Aaron Bura has passed away just short of his 100th birthday.
Bura will be remembered for a lot of things, notably his caring nature. Here’s fellow veteran Ed Rathke:
Bura was born in Ramona, Kansas, in January 1923 and served as a technical sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was wounded in action during the war. Following the war, Bura became a letter carrier for the Emporia post office in 1961 and retired in 1987. He was also honored two years ago for 50 years of membership in the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Rathke says men like Bura are hard acts to follow.
Funeral services are pending.
