Christmas is about many things, including family and giving. And one Emporia man recently continued his work to give to families in the community.
John Scott organized Monique-a-Wish in 2013, in part to honor the passing of his daughter at birth and in part to instill the values associated with community service to his son.
The main goal, however, was to “bring Christmas to all kids.”
That was definitely the case at the Monique-a-Wish annual distribution “Christmas party” at Abundant Harvest earlier this month, with gifts for children, an opportunity to meet Santa, gift certificates for parents and groceries as well. Scott says rank-and-file employees he chats with for donations are “the real true heroes” of the annual donation effort. He also says his family, which has grown over the last decade, gets more involved with the effort every year.
All told, Monique-a-Wish helped 16 families this year.
