The Olpe Eagles soared over Hartford to pick up back-to-back wins in the first Area Game of the Week matchup of 2023 Friday night.
The Olpe Girls managed to hold Hartford to single digits in every quarter of their 53-20 victory.
Olpe would lead by just four points at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the lady Jaguars 11-5 to take a 22-12 halftime lead. In the second half Olpe outscored Hartford 31-8 to clinch their 6th win on the year.
Olpe had two players in double figures, junior Kadey Robert led all scorers with 13 points and freshman Lily Skalsky added 10. The eagles forced 37 turnovers in the game.
Coach Ron Slaymaker says their defense made up for a slow offensive start.
Hartford was led in scoring by sophomore Keilee Finnerty with 8 points. Olpe now improves to 6-3 on the year as Hartford falls to 2-7.
In the boy’s game, Olpe would build an early double digit lead and never trail enroute to a 79-32 win over the jaguars.
The Eagles shot 57 percent from the field and forced 13 turnovers to take a 46-17 lead into the halftime locker room. Olpe would outscore Hartford 33-15 in the second to close out the win.
Olpe had four players in double figures. Seniors Blake Redeker and Truman Bailey each had 15 points on the night. Junior Blake Skalsky added 12 while sophomore Dexton Hoelting and senior Garret Cole both ended the night with 11.
Head Coach Chris Schmidt his team continues to improve with each game.
Senior Ali Smith led Hartford with 15 points. Olpe now improves 9-0 as Hartford falls to 4-5.
