The Emporia High basketball teams picked up their third sweep of 2023 with two wins over Paola Tuesday night.
The Spartans defeated the Panthers, 58-28. Emporia High led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
Coach Lee Baldwin says the Spartans found a way to put themselves in a position to win the game after the game was close early.
Sheldon Stewart and Cooper Rech each had 12 points to lead the Spartans. Emporia High improved to 8-1 on the season.
The Lady Spartans defeated Paola, 51-16.
Emporia High jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back. The Lady Spartans held the Panthers scoreless in the second quarter.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey says they played good team basketball for 28 of the 32 minutes.
Addie Kirmer led the Lady Spartans with 16 points, while Lexsey Dewitt had a career-high 14 points.
The Emporia High girls are now 9-0 on the season. The Lady Spartans and Spartans host Junction City on Friday.
