If you live in the city of Emporia and your water either tastes or smells funny, there’s a reason why.
City Communications Manager Christine Johnson says there have been some issues with the Water Treatment Plant’s ozone system, meaning a possible “difference in taste and odor” for tap water.
City crews started working with a vendor since late Saturday morning to resolve the issues, which apparently revolve around a failure of a programmable logic controlling unit, and continued at least through Saturday evening. Johnson says the plant is in full compliance with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment with chlorine now being used as the water system’s main disinfectant until everything returns to normal.
Public Works Director Dean Grant says all updates will come through the City Communications Office.
