Citizens of Emporia looking to start or expand a business now have a golden opportunity with the upcoming Show of Hands competition.
The event will allow qualifying entrepreneurs with new ideas to pitch their ideas to an audience as well as Emporia Main Street for a chance to win a grant that would allow them to open their business. The participants are required to present a five-to-seven presentation with visual aids included.
Grant money is collected through participating Emporians and their donations to the event. Each ticket to the presentation is $10 and goes directly to supporting each individual business.
At the pitch, the audience can buy as many tickets as they’d like to “vote” for their favorite concept, although only one is required for entry.
Casey Woods, executive director of Emporia Main Street, describes how the event was successful for last year’s participants.
The Show of Hands competition will take place on March 9th at 5:30 p.m. at the Emporia Granada Theatre.
Applications for those wishing to participate are currently open through Emporia Main Street and tickets for the event will be available online soon.
