Travel conditions are improving across the KVOE listening area after light snowfall.
The KVOE studios got 1.5 inches of snowfall Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Other totals:
*Ninth and Lawrence: 1.5 inches snow
*10th and Weaver: 2 inches snow
*Southeast Emporia: 3.2 inches snow
*Burlingame: 2 inches snow
*Burlington: 2.5 inches snow
*Bushong: 2.5 inches snow
*Cottonwood Falls: 2.5 inches snow
*Gridley: 3 inches snow
*Madison: 2.4 inches snow
*Reading: 3.5 inches snow
There were several crashes that developed before sunrise, but they were all listed as non-injury.
Road crews were out for much of the overnight hours and past sunrise, initially clearing the snowfall before using different treatment materials, depending on the road surface and presence of underground utilities. Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers says midday driving conditions are much better than they were before sunrise.
Most area school districts announced 2-hour delays to give time for improved travel conditions. Other schedule adjustments were isolated.

There’s not much snowfall on the ground, but the heavy, wet snowfall that came to the KVOE listening area overnight is causing slick travel conditions.

TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says weather and travel conditions will improve through the day, aside from an increase in northerly wind speeds. There is a concern for a refreeze after sunset.
