Fresh off agreeing to remain in her role as County Health Officer this past Thursday, Dr. Ladun Oyenuga recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss the latest health trends across Lyon County.
Dr. Oyenuga says at this time, the county is back to the “high transmission rate” when it comes to COVID-19 cases. As such she says they are continuing to deal with “small pockets of outbreaks” across the community.
Like other health professionals in recent months, Dr. Oyenuga says the moderate COVID numbers seen across the county may not be completely accurate due to a discrepancy in reporting.
Despite ongoing COVID cases, Dr. Oyenuga says Public Health is working to remind residents not to neglect traditional “chronic conditions.”
Dr. Oyenuga says there was a “neglect of care” throughout the pandemic with many residents opting to forgo traditional health checks in order to thoroughly scan and treat for COVID and other respiratory viruses. As such, she says the county is now seeing a strain on health services due to the backlog of regular appointments.
These comments come less than a week after Lyon County Commissioners asked Dr. Oyenuga to remain in her role as Lyon County Health Officer this past Thursday, a request she accepted. Dr. Oyenuga has held her role since January of 2021 replacing former Health Officer and current Public Health Incident Commander Renee Hively.
