Though MLK Day has come and gone, the Emporia Friendship Center’s RSVP community service project is still ongoing and set to wrap up Tuesday.
For the second consecutive year, the RSVP program held a community PB&J supply food drive for local food pantries. Organizer Kitty Hamilton says the project has seen a tremendous response from the community and has already surpassed the prior year’s total.
Those looking to donate to the MLK Day of Service project have until Tuesday to do so. Boxes will be collected from nearly 15 different locations across the community at the end of the day.
The drop-off locations include:
*Flint Hills Mall
*Dillons
*Country Mart North
*Waters Hardware
*Graves Drugs
*Goods Cash Saver
*Bluestem
*PT Associates
*Do B’s
*Emporia Public Library
*Mels Tire
*Clint Bowyer Autoplex
*Emporia Friendship Center
Hamilton says the MLK Day of Service is meant to serve the local community and remind residents of the true meaning of MLK Day. Hamilton says that while many view the holiday as a “day off” it is meant to be a “day on” for serving one’s community.
