Homeowners dealing with COVID-related hardships and needing help on their mortgage payments are running out of time to take part in a special grant program.
The Kansas Homeowner Assistance Fund gives eligible homeowners who are at least 30 days past due on their mortgage payments, property taxes and/or utility bills a chance to get payment assistance. The Kansas Housing Authority says the program has helped over 3,500 household with nearly $40 million in payments since it was established this past April.
The Homeowner Assistance Fund is a federally-funded program, but it’s temporary. Once the fund has enough applications to fully spend down the available funds, any new applications and recertifications will be put on hold. They will not be reviewed or processed unless there is enough money to handle those requests.
