Chase County Law Enforcement now has its second in command and its a face very familiar with the department.
It was recently announced that Aaron Hoffman had been appointed as Chase County’s new undersheriff serving under Sheriff Jacob Welsh. Hoffman came to Kansas back in 2006 and began his career in law enforcement as a part-time dispatcher in high school before becoming an officer in the field.
Sheriff Welsh, who assumed his role in September, says Hoffman is a great asset to the county due to his work ethic and familiarity with the area.
Since his appointment, Welsh has stated that increased community interaction is a key focus for him and the department. He says “people want the very best law enforcement they can get” and he and Hoffman will be working to ensure that is exactly what the department provides.
Welsh says there has been a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the lay of the land in Chase County. Welsh served Lyon County as a deputy for over a decade before replacing Richard Dorneker who served Chase County for 28 years including 18 as Sheriff.
Welsh says the department is “pretty close” to being fully staffed at this time with five dispatchers and five sworn-in officers. He says he is hoping to hire at least one more officer to bring the total to six.
