The Emporia State women’s basketball team outscored Northwest Missouri State 52-42 Thursday night.
Northwest jumped out to a 7-0 start before Emporia State began to claw back into the game. They trailed 12-10 after the 1st quarter. The Lady Hornets would grab a 9-point lead by halftime and would never give up the lead.
Coach Toby Wynn said they won it by being more efficient offensively.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game-high 21 points to lead Emporia State. She also moved past Emily Bloss to number 4 on the Emporia State all-time scoring list. She is now 4 points away from tieing Kelly Moten for 3rd place.
With the win, the Emporia State women are now 12-10 for the season and 7-9 in the MIAA.
Northwest Missouri State won the men’s game 63-52.
Northwest jumped out to a 12-2 lead and held an 18-5 lead thanks to 12 points from Diego Bernard. Emporia State would claw back into the game and cut the deficit to 3 at 29-26 before Northwest closed out the 1st half on a 6-0 run. In the 2nd half, Emporia State cut the deficit to 7 before Northwest would go on a run and led by as many as 17.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said Northwest was better.
Emporia State was led by Alijah Comithier with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
The Emporia State men are now 17-5 for the season and 11-5 in the MIAA.
Both the women and men play at Missouri Western Saturday afternoon.
