It was not a good day for the Emporia State basketball teams in St. Joseph, Missouri Saturday. Missouri Western completed the season sweep of both the Emporia State women’s and men’s basketball teams.
Missouri Western won the women’s game 76-60. Western jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and Emporia State would never catch up.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said 2nd chance points and points off of turnovers was a big difference.
Tre’Zure Jobe led Emporia State with 26 points and moved into 3rd place on the all-time scoring list.
Victoria Price added 16 points and Ehlaina Hartman finished with 10 points.
The Emporia State women are now 12-11 for the season and 7-10 in the MIAA.
Missouri Western rallied to win the men’s game 65-60.
The game featured 12 lead changes and 4 ties. Emporia States’ biggest lead was by 8 in the 2nd half. Western outscored the Hornets 28-15 to close out the game. Emporia State Coach Craig Doty was not pleased with the way they closed out the game.
Alijah Comithier led Emporia State in scoring with 21 points. Peyton Rogers-Schmidt added 14 points and Kaden Evans finished with 10 points.
The Hornets are now 17-6 for the season and 11-6 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men are off until next Saturday when they host Newman.
