The annual St. Patrick’s Committee host of events is back on the schedule, however, there are some major changes coming.
Regarding fundraising, Committee member Barb Lowry says they will be taking a new approach to this year’s activities. Namely, the longstanding auction held at Bruff’s Sports Bar and Grill will now be replaced with an online-only auction.
One thing that will not change is that all funds generated from the auction and other activities will again benefit several local agencies. That being said, Lowry tells KVOE News they will be seeking a bit more participation from those benefactors this year.
Lowry says one key reason for the change is the ever-growing popularity of online events in recent years.
The online auction is set to run for two weeks at the beginning of March. Lowry says the tentative schedule is Mar. 1-15. Also this year will not see the annual Leprechaun Day Dash, disc golf tournament or a raffle as part of the list of activities.
The annual parade is still on the calendar and is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 18 in downtown Emporia. Additional activities will be centered at Town Royal with bagpipers also scheduled to perform both during and after the parade.
Sponsorships are also being offered again this year with three options for businesses or individuals to choose from.
Organizations looking to apply for funding through the St. Patrick’s Day Committee can find the application on the Emporia St. Patrick’s Day Committee Facebook page or by calling 620-343-0745.
