With an ever-expanding need for childcare and family resources, USD 252 Southern Lyon County is looking to expand its reach and support of local families thanks to a generous grant award from the state of Kansas.
The district was recently awarded more than $106,000 in state funding which it plans to put towards expanding family engagement services and events in its encompassing communities. Laura Evins of USD 252 recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss the allocation.
She says learning they received the grant came as a positive shock.
Evins tells KVOE News the program comes as there continues to be a great need for childcare and family resources locally, however, a lack of available space has made serving those needs rather difficult.
Plans are to utilize the district’s early childhood centers as the “hubs” for the program. Evins says a complete “grand plan” for the program is still in development and will hinge greatly on community partnerships both within the district and its encompassing communities.
USD 252 was one of 10 agencies chosen to receive a share of nearly $1.8 million announced in late January by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly. Locally, the Kansas Family Advisory Network which serves Lyon and Osage counties within the KVOE listening area was also named a recipient of right around $208,000.
