The Emporia State men’s basketball team needed overtime to defeat Central Missouri 68-66 Thursday.
The game featured 22 lead changes and 12 ties.
Kaden Evans hit a 3-point shot to send the game to overtime. He finished with 14 points.
Alijah Comithier hit the game-winning shot with 10 seconds to play. He finished with 10 points.
Owen Long also finished with 14 points and Atavian Butler added 11 points.
Coach Craig Doty liked the way they kept battling.
The Hornets improve to 19-6 for the season and 13-6 in MIAA play. They remain tied for 3rd place in the MIAA standings.
Central Missouri won the women’s game 78-70.
Emporia State had an early 10-4 lead but an 11-4 run to close out the 1st quarter gave Central a lead they would not give up.
Coach Toby Wynn called it a frustrating night defensively as they allowed Brooke Littrell to score 25 points and Ashley Tull to finish with 22 points.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game-high 34 points to lead Emporia State in scoring, becoming the 3rd player in Lady Hornet history to score 2000 points in a career. She joins Michell Stueve and Caroline Richards in the 2000-point club.
Victoria Price added 13 points.
The Emporia State women fall to 13-12 for the season and 8-11 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men play at Lincoln on Saturday.
