Twin Rivers Junior Shooting Sports began what it hopes will become and annual event Sunday afternoon.
The organization held a bowling fundraiser at Flint Hills Lanes welcoming families from all across the area to participate. President Tony Leek says this is a departure from the group’s typical fundraisers which have included shooting demonstrations, banquets and gun raffles.
Leek says they wanted to put on an event the whole family could enjoy together.
In addition to being a fun time for all, Leek says Sunday’s event is also a great opportunity to introduce children and families to the organization and discuss the importance of firearm safety in a safe and inclusive environment. All proceeds will go to support competitive shooting opportunities for local youth according to Leek.
Leek says they are hopeful the bowling event will become an annual event and potentially expand into other “non-traditional” events in the future. Along with bowling, participants could also take part in several raffle drawings for a range of prizes.
Totals from Sunday are currently pending.
