An Emporia High teacher was named as a Kansas Master Teacher on Tuesday.
Martha MacKay teaches physical science at Emporia High. She and the other honorees will have a special Master Teacher Day at Emporia State University on April 5.
Emporia State began the award in 1954 and gives them every year to teachers who “demonstrate the attributes of exemplary professional educators.” Recipients were chosen by a nine-member committee involving representatives of several education-related groups and organizations statewide as well as recent Kansas Master Teacher classes.
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation gives each teacher $1,000. The foundation has pledged more than $100,000 since 1980 to permanently endow this award.
