Two reported injury crashes involving teenage drivers happened near Emporia on Wednesday, but only one of the crashes resulted in a hospital trip.
Lyon County Deputy Dylan Jacobs says deputies and Emporia/Lyon County EMS responded to the 1700 block of Road 175, about six miles east of Emporia, around 5:30 pm. 18-year-old Amarin Renee Shelton of Reading was driving a pickup eastbound when she went off the road. The truck rolled.
Shelton was taken to Newman Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries. It’s unclear why she went off the road.
The second wreck was at Roads 140 and F, about two miles southwest of Emporia. It happened shortly after 4 pm and involved two pickup trucks. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 15-year-old Kael Wagaman of Emporia was westbound on Road 140, failed to yield at a stop sign and was hit by a northbound truck driven by 25-year-old Trenten Robert of Emporia.
Wagaman, two juvenile passengers and Robert all declined hospital trips afterward.
