Trial now isn’t coming until summer at the earliest for one of the six defendants in the Jesus Avila murder from over five years ago.
At a hearing Thursday, Judge Lee Fowler accepted a defense request to delay a status hearing until July 13. The move essentially takes off the previously-listed trial settings, including one which had trial beginning this upcoming Monday.
Alanis is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, aggravated robbery and other charges in Avila’s death.
Four co-defendants, all charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated robbery, arson and other counts, are at varying stages of the court process. Andrew Granado and Jovan Pecina have status conferences May 11, while Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde has a status hearing June 1. Samuel Garcia, the alleged gunman, has arraignment coming May 4.
One defendant, Armando Nunez, is spending nearly four years in prison after pleading to attempted burglary, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage.
