It will be two to four weeks before a major street project begins in Emporia.
City leaders have been alerting residents for months about the work ahead on Highland Street on the east side of the Emporia State University campus. City Engineer Jim Ubert says there is a lot of road work to come, meaning a lot of utility work ahead.
There is utility work for the city as well, and Ubert says that will happen after the franchise utilities handle their work. Sanitary sewer and water line improvements between 14th and 15th will lead off the city project, followed by storm sewer work and a phased approach to replacing the pavement between 12th and 16th. Ubert says the city is also coordinating with Emporia State for 20 nose-in parking spots on the west side of Highland.
The goal is to have everything done by the time Emporia State students return for the fall semester in mid-August.
