USD 386 Madison-Virgil moved quickly to name its new superintendent.
After current superintendent Steve Jowers announced his resignation less than a month ago, the district’s Board of Education named current junior-senior high school principal Tammy Baird as superintendent following interviews Tuesday. Board member Jeff Williams says Baird stood out for her experience, including better than 20 years in education and several administrative roles. There were other reasons why Baird became the candidate of choice.
KVOE News has reached out to Baird and will be talking with her this week.
With Jowers leaving the district, the elementary school principal position is opening as well. Williams says the district has started a search for the principal position and that search will also be conducted in-house.
8:45 am Wednesday: USD 386 Madison-Virgil elevating Baird to superintendent
A familiar face will be the new superintendent at USD 386 Madison-Virgil.
Tammy Baird, currently serving the district as the junior-senior high school principal, will begin as superintendent effective July 1. Baird has been employed by the district for two years and will also maintain her position as principal.
Baird interviewed Tuesday evening after Humboldt High Principal John Johnson interviewed in the afternoon. She will replace Steve Jowers, who is becoming superintendent at USD 448 Inman after serving as Madison-Virgil’s superintendent since June.
Unlike other school districts that partnered with an outside consultant, including USD 252 Southern Lyon County for its search that recently ended, USD 386 Madison-Virgil ecided to conduct its search unaided. It received nine applications before starting the interview process.
