The Emporia High Lady Spartans are headed to the 5A state tournament after a 42-32 win over Maize South in the sub-state championship game Friday night.
Emporia High jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, leading by as many as 10 at one time, and took a 27-18 lead into the halftime locker room. The Lady Spartans would struggle in the third quarter as Maize South managed to tie the game outscoring the Lady Spartans 6-3.
Emporia High would respond in the fourth outscoring Maize South 15-8 to clinch the win. Emporia High was led by senior Rebecca Snyder with 16 points.
Head Coach Carolyn Dorsey says it was a great team effort.
Maize South was led in scoring by junior Amani Lipscomb with 13 points. Emporia High now improves to 18-3 on the year.
The 5A state tournament will be played inside of Emporia’s White Auditorium Wednesday through Saturday.
