Despite two rounds of rainfall over the past week, Sunday’s fire danger is very high areawide.
A combination of relative humidity levels below 30 percent and wind gusts at or above 30 mph are elevating the fire danger for the rest of Sunday. Recent rainfall — upwards of 1-3 inches as part of two different rounds of rain last week — have helped the drought conditions north of Madison, but they have also made a lot of mud, which will make it difficult for firefighters to move equipment if fires develop.
Chase County is in a burn ban through Sunday.
Sunday’s fire danger sets up an active week areawide, with several rain chances Tuesday through Friday — including a chance of snow Thursday night into Friday. High temperatures will peak Sunday in the mid-70s, with temperatures in the 40s from Tuesday through the upcoming weekend.
