With the 2023 election cycle now underway, Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to remind voters of some important upcoming dates.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is scheduled for noon Jun. 1. Vopat says candidate filings are important for any election cycle as there has to be three times the number of filings for any open position in order to force a primary election.
At this time, Vopat says there is a good chance there may be no need for a primary election within Lyon County. She tells KVOE News that the primary aspect of any election cycle often leads to some confusion for local voters yearly.
The Jun. 1 candidate filing deadline will be followed by the voter registration deadline at 5 pm Jul. 11. Vopat says if there is a primary election mail ballots would be sent out on Jul. 12 with in-office advanced voting beginning Jul. 17.
The 2023 election cycle involves City Commission, City Council, Mayor and school board positions. The general election will be held in November.
