Dynamic Discs has a new owner and a slight adjustment to its leadership structure, but day-to-day operations are not changing and the new ownership group could set up a long-desired expansion for the business.
That’s according to Dynamic Discs founder, longtime owner and now strategic advisor Jeremy Rusco, who says both Dynamic Discs and Dynamic Distribution have sold to European venture capital companies Vendis and Equip. Both companies now join a larger conglomerate known currently as House of Discs.
Rusco tells KVOE News conversations have been underway for a little more than a year and were solidified as venture capital leaders got to see Emporia’s relationship with the companies and the sport as a whole. He also tells KVOE News this was the only conversation that developed into something serious the past several years, although he has been fielding requests for years.
Rusco says he is making a “substantial reinvestment” into the new company, which also includes Dynamic partners like Westside and Latitude 64 as well as Kastaplast, Handeye Supply Company and others — with additional acquisitions possible. Rusco says he is stepping away from the operations aspect of the business, but that’s the only major change to be seen for now.
Rusco also sees a prime local opportunity to add something he’s wanted for years: production.
Rusco sees 10-15 percent growth continuing for the foreseeable future, ane he believes a production facility could bring hundreds of jobs to Emporia if it’s approved. Separately, Rusco says Dynamic’s event schedule, including the Monkey Island Open on March 25-26, Glas Blown Open on April 28-30 and Dynamic Discs Open on June 16-18, will remain unchanged.
Rusco began Dynamic Discs in March of 2005 as an Ebay based disc golf store. Dynamic Discs made the transition from retailer to a combination retailer/manufacturer/distributor role in December of 2012 when it partnered with Sweden-based Latitude 64 for the design and production of discs.
For Vendis and Equip, this continues announcements since this past summer to flesh out House of Discs.
