In a way, the popular TV phenomenon “Shark Week” is getting compressed Friday night with an appearance by a noted expert on the predator.
Dr. David Shiffman, an interdisciplinary marine conservation biologist from Arizona State University, will speak at Emporia State’s Albert Taylor Hall at 7 pm, and his appearance was the lead focus of KVOE’s most recent ESU Buzz this week. Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center administrator Dr. Daphne Mayes said this appearance helps to highlight the connections between freshwater areas like the Flint Hills and the ocean.
Shiffman has won numerous awards and obtained several grants for his work. His presentation is called “Why Sharks Matter: The Science and Policy Behind Saving Threatened Sharks.”
Doors will open at 6:30 pm. The event is free and open to all ages.
