The Emporia State men’s basketball team won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game Saturday outscoring Northern State 72-51.
The Hornets used a 24-9 run to close out the 1st half to take a 43-23 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Coach Craig Doty called it a statement win.
Owen Long led Emporia State in scoring with 18 points. Mayuom Buom added 16 points and Levelle Zeigler scored 10 points.
The Hornets will play Minnesota Duluth in the semi-finals Sunday with tipoff at 5 pm.
The game will be broadcast on MIX 104.9.
Minnesota Duluth defeated Central Oklahoma 62-56.
In the other first-round games Northwest Missouri State outscored Southern Arkansas 94-69.
And Southern Nazarene held on for a 67-64 win over Minnesota State Moorhead.
