Emporia Police officers are warning residents of the latest scam allegedly involving somebody claiming to represent Evergy.
Officers say a suspect is calling people, claiming they are behind on payments and need to make payments through Cash App to avoid a power shutoff within an hour of the call.
Officers and Evergy say the company will never collect payments through Cash App and the utility will send letters to your home before power is shut down. Residents with questions about their payment status with Evergy can call 800-383-1183 or go online to evergy.com.
