Recent rainfall and blustery conditions have had little impact on early work related to the Lyon County Highway Department’s new multi-million dollar maintenance and bridge shop project.
According to Lyon County Assistant Engineer Jim Brull construction began on Monday and has progressed smoothly over the past several days despite high winds and recent precipitation.
The $5.4 million project will encompass more than 21,000 square feet and include a new maintenance shop and bridge shop. In addition to the increased space for employees and equipment, the new buildings will also provide several benefits to local taxpayers according to Brull.
This includes shorter repair times for equipment meaning projects won’t have to be halted significantly if equipment malfunctions. Also, Brull says the increased space will allow for larger equipment and more in-house projects.
Brull adds the bridge shop will allow for more in-house custom fabrication which could significantly cut down on the cost of various projects, specifically bridge repairs and replacements. The project is expected to take 12-14 months to complete weather permitting.
