New scoreboards will be in the Emporia Recreation Center’s gymnasium soon.
That’s all thanks to a donation by Emporia Sports Promotion. Rec director Tom McEvoy presented the update on new scoreboards during the Emporia Recreation Commission’s monthly meeting Monday night.
Board Chairman Dave Harding says ERC is appreciative of the donation.
McEvoy also had updates from the Class 5A State Basketball Tournament and presented a proposal concerning new flooring in the fitness center and the aerobic studio.
McEvoy also presented specifications of leasing vehicles from Emporia car dealerships.
In other business, the board heard three reports from Sports Supervisor Rick Cunningham, Program Supervisor Tiffany Miller and Assistant Director of Operations Amanda Gutierrez.
The board also scheduled a special meeting to vote a recommendation to the City of Emporia on the Jones Aquatic Center Management agreement. A date for the special meeting has not been announced.
Separately, the board discussed capital investments and funding needed for renovations or building a new recreation center. The board requested the creation of a task force and resolution to also be voted on at the special meeting.
The ERC board’s next scheduled meeting is on Monday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m.
