The National Teachers Hall of Fame has announced the first two inductees into its 2023 class.
Kristen Record of Frank Scott Bunnell High School in Stratford, Connecticut and Dr. Caryn Long of Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida were announced as the first two inductees Wednesday morning. NTHF Interim Director Ken Weaver says Record and Long are more than deserving of a place in the Hall of Fame.
Record’s 22-year career has included several accolades including being named the 2011 Connecticut Teacher of the Year. She also received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching from the National Science Foundation in 2009 and was a national STEM Policy Institute Fellow with MIT and George Washington University in 2014.
Long is a 34-year veteran educator whose list of accomplishments includes being named as an Eleanor Roosevelt Teaching Fellow in 1999. She was also the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching from the National Science Foundation in 2000 and was selected as the Distinguished Teacher of the Year for the National Science Teacher Association in 2001.
Weaver says Record and Long are just two of five inductees in what is shaping up to be a standout class. Weaver adds that NTHF’s reputation is continuing to grow year after year.
He attributes this in part to the large platform it provides to its inductees.
Induction activities will take place in Emporia Jun. 12-16. In addition to the traditional slate of activities, Weaver says the Hall of Fame will be adding a new event to the calendar this year.
The Hall of Fame will announce the final three inductees Monday and Tuesday. For more information on the 2023 inductees visit NTHF.org.
