the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building was full from end to end as a staple community event made a return to its original format this weekend.
The Kiwanis Club of Emporia welcomed the community to its 75th annual Pancake Day Saturday morning. This was the first time in three years breakfast-goers were able to dine in after the event moved to a drive-thru-only format following the COVID-19 pandemic. Kiwanis Club President-Elect Deb Williams says the event didn’t feel complete without the community in the building.
Along with enjoying delicious pancakes and sausage, residents were also able to take part in a special raffle Saturday morning with all proceeds going to support the construction of a new shelter house at the Peter Pan Park Splash Pad. The shelter will serve as the club’s centennial project as it celebrates it’s 100th anniversary this September.
Williams says when she thinks about 100 years of Kiwanis the first thing that comes to mind is the numerous impacts the club has had on the Emporia community in that time.
Proceeds from Pancake Day will go to support club initiatives within the Emporia community. Totals are currently pending.
