The state’s Cold Weather Rule ends Friday.
The Salvation Army of Emporia has seen a lot of requests for help with utility bills, and Capt. Mylie Hadden expects a push this week — at a time when available assistance is lower than it has been in years past.
The Cold Weather Rule prevents utility companies from shutting off services to customers if the temperature goes below 35 degrees or is forecasted to be in the low-to-mid 30s for at least a 24-hour period. However, customers need to set up payment arrangements and maintain those agreements to avoid potential shutoffs.
