Within the next few weeks, Americus will have a new ballfield complex ready for use.
Project Playscape has been planning, raising funds and leading the construction effort for the complex, which has its grand opening May 13. Organizer Britney Hinrichs, KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 guest Monday, says it’s good to see the end in sight after issues with weather and COVID-19-related supply holdups.
Hinrichs says the roughly $600,000 complex is about 85 percent finished now, with the dugout covers, concrete pads, playground equipment and scoreboards all to be installed. The plan has included two new ballfields instead of the previous one field, as well as new bleachers, lights, and a scoreboard. The project also has a new shelter house, renovated concessions and bathrooms and a new playground.
Meanwhile, fundraising and grant writing continues for a combination new splash pad and renovated basketball court. Hinrichs says the goal is to have at least some of the splash pad open later this year.
The goal is also to resurface the basketball court this summer.
Project Playscape is getting ready is getting ready for its second annual banquet, which is April 22 at the North Lyon County Youth Association Building in Allen. For more information, find Project Playscape on social media.
