An important inspection project is currently underway at the Thunderbird substation for 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative.
During an appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show Wednesday, 4 Rivers Manager Dennis Svanes discussed the project saying right around 6,000 poles across the utility’s coverage area will be tested over the next several months.
Svanes says inspectors are looking for “danger poles” — poles that need immediate replacement. He tells KVOE News danger poles can result from several factors, namely exposure to the elements.
Svanes adds that wildlife, specifically woodpeckers, and vehicles are two other contributing factors to the deterioration of poles.
According to Svanes the utility has a “10 percent rejection rate” meaning close to 600 poles across the coverage area will likely be replaced before the project comes to an end. The inspection process is being overseen by Osmose Utilities Services Company.
